Artists donate to Charity Raffle for Wheelchair fund

Written by on October 7, 2020

This Halloween just got a little bit better with a rockin’ charity raffle!

Dee Advani fund raising

Rock stars across the nation are contributing to help long time TotalRock listener, ‘Countess Deecular’, who is fundraising for a new electric wheelchair! Dee, who suffers from Scoliosis, is unable to propel herself on a manual wheelchair so is in need of an electric wheelchair to regain her independence. Due to living in a flat with no lift it also needs to be collapsable and the bill comes to a whopping £2,350 for her freedom!

A friend found out that Dee was selling her possessions to try reach the high target as her condition and lack of mobility has forced her out of work, and so set up some fundraising events – unfortunately the lockdown hit and these all had to be cancelled and so a crowdfunder was set up:

I noticed on Facebook that my lovely friend Dee was selling her personal belongings to try and raise funds to buy a new electric wheelchair that she’s desperate for and boy are these things expensive! Dee didn’t want to do a fundraiser as she is a very proud lady but I saw what she was doing and really wanted to help.” Claire Bridges.

I’ve suffered with Scoliosis since the age of 14, had decades of treatments from back braces , physiotherapy and special beds but nothing worked. In my 20’s I was told that it wouldn’t get any worse or better. I continued to struggle on in pain until it got too much and was forced to give up work in my late 40’s. I’ve had two operations resulting in a spinal fusion and metal rods screwed onto my spine. This stabilised the curve from progressing but it didn’t straighten me up and I now have difficulty and pain whilst walking. My mobility is getting worse, there’s nothing else medically that can be done for me. Though I do have a manual wheelchair I am unable to propel myself due to the pain and have to rely on family members to push my chair when I’m out which is now putting strain on their bodies. I need a folding electric wheelchair because I live in a flat with no lift. This chair could give me the independence I need and to not reply on my family when I want to go outside.” Dee Advani.
