Meet Momometal, The New Member Of Babymetal

In an announcement on Twitter the Japanese Kawaii metal band released the news that they had found their third member. Momoko Okazaki – who will go by the name Momometal – served as one of the band’s backup dancers from 2019 to present. It’s been a thrill for fans to see Okazaki rise through the ranks and she will no doubt be an exciting new addition. Earlier this year the Babymetal fandom was teased with the idea of a new member when a third coffin was brought out during one of their shows, casting a silhouette of a person standing inside it.

The previous duo had been fronting the band since Yui Mizuno – ‘Yuimetal’ – decided to leave in 2018 due to poor health. The band had since filled that absence with a team of backup dancers called “Avengers” who performed at each show, taking turns to form the trio with Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metsl) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal). Okazaki performed with this troupe before now becoming as full time member of the Babymetal band. Having also played with Japanese idol group, Sakura Gakuin and being a contestant on Girls Planet 999, Momometal is no stranger to the scene and seeks to bring an added bonus to the already thriving musicians.

The band has described this new era as a “re-born Babymetal” with promise for much more to come following their fourth studio album release – ‘The Other One’ – last month. They will embark on their first ever headlining tour of Asia and Austrailia this summer as part of their 2023 world tour. They will also perform at this year’s Louder Than Life festival in Kentucky, USA which will include acts such as Green Day, Foo Fighters and Queens Of The Stone Age.
