BabyMetal have unleashed their brand new Live album ‘10 BabyMetal Budokan’ unto the World and I’m sure you’re wondering ‘is it any good?`.
The album starts with a Japanese garbled intro ‘BabyMetal Death-Shin ver’, which goes on forever and doesn’t really go anywhere. The only highlight bit, was when the talking stopped and you can hear the assembled crowd chanting the bands name. Much better.
Minor niggle aside, the album is definitely full of energy, as is obvious when the band are performing their well known songs ‘Gimme Chocolate’, ‘Doki Doki’, ‘Pa Pa Ya!!’, ‘Megitsune’ and ‘Karate’, as the crowd are cheering and applauding madly at the songs that made their presence felt.
The other tracks on offer ‘Ijime Dame Zettai’, ‘Distortion’, ‘Headbangeeeeerrr!!!!!’, ‘The One’ and ‘Road Of Resistance’ are on the whole OK, although the track ‘No Rain No Rainbow’ is quite a good slow track, that for some unexplicable reason stops for about 15 seconds, late into the track and then kicks back into life, as a result, makes the the song disjointed and ruins the overall impact of the song, which is a shame. The track ‘GJ!’ is a real self indulgent track that can’t make up its mind whether it wants to be a full blown Rocker or a Symphonic masterpiece.
Live albums are an odd beast to get to grips with at the best of times and this from BabyMetal is one of those…good in places but could’ve been so much better. Perhaps you had to be there to really appreciate the nuances and energy from the band to fully appreciate it. However, listening to this Live album as an audio experience, didn’t blow me away. Shame.
