Black Sabbath Announce Super Deluxe Release of ‘Live Evil’

The Acclaimed Live Album Returns

Black Sabbath have announced the impending release of a mega 4 CD, 4 LP original album remaster extravaganza. ‘Live Evil’, the official debut live record from the masters of metal first hit the shelves in 1983 and was applauded as both a commercial and critical success. From reaching #13 in the UK charts and #37 on the Billboard Top 200 to Kerrang! magazine hailing it as “one of the greatest live albums of all time,” it’s no small commemorative status for this newly rebuffed edition. With newly indoctrinated vocalist Ronnie James Dio joining the ranks of founding members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward in 1979 Black Sabbath was looking to establish a new era of unholy metal matrimony to throw upon the world. Studio album ‘Heaven and Hell’ was released to a platinum response and the birth of the Dio-fied Sabbath was baptised with resounding success. Their following record, ‘Mob Rules’ would follow suit, being certified gold before the band announced plans to record several shows for what would later become ‘Live Evil’.

The 40th anniversary edition of the album (available 2nd June 2023) features a hefty, two version collection of the legendary album. A newly remastered version by Andy Pearce along with a new mix created from the original analog multi-tracks by longtime band associate Wyn Davis. Inside the physical versions you can find illustrated handbooks with posters from the ‘Mob Rules’ tour alongside new liner notes and replicas of the concert book. The newly remastered version of ‘The Mob Rules’ is available digitally, today. Capturing the untamed, unhinged live chemistry of this Black Sabbath in all its dark magic magnificence, the album was and is definitive in rousing a re-birthed love of the band. As Hugh Gilmour write in the extensive liner notes, “The ten-month Mob Rules tour was certainly a very successful one, resurrecting their reputation not only as a band that could fill major venues, but one that could sell plenty of vinyl and cassettes too. Black Sabbath Mk 2 had given their record label two best-selling LPs and were about to present a third.”
