Commemorating Johnson’s First Live Performance With AC/DC
In the Belgium city of Namur Brian Johnson has been immortalised. A life-sized Belgium Blue Stone statue of the singer commemorates his first ever performance with the iconic band on the 29th June 1980. Taking place at Namur’s Palais Des Expositions the performance came shortly after they had finished recording the Back In Black album. The show featured a plethora of tracks from their latest record, finishing with the last song the late Bon Scott had sung five months earlier, ‘Let There Be Rock’. Johnson recalled the night he first stepped into the AC/CD limelight, “It’s a very special place for me,” he says. “It was the first might I sang with AC/DC, and I was a very nervous boy. So that memory will stay with me forever, and now that you’ve built this statue – honestly, I’m not worthy of it – I thank you, and I’ll take it in good grace.” The statue was fan-funded, created by AC/DC enthusiasts Mike Davister, Michael Remy and Georges Boussingault with support from the local radio station RTBF Classic 21.
This is the second dosage of AC/DC news hitting fans in the space of a few weeks. In March the band were announced as headliners at Power Trip festival in California which will be taking place October this year. It will be the first time AC/DC play live since 2016 and no doubt a spectacular tour de force of classic hard rocking hits.
