Written by Malcolm Dome on September 1, 2018
UK death metallers Cancer have announced the title of their sixth album.
It’s to be called ‘Shadow Gripped’ and will be released by Peaceville on November 2. The album was recorded at Foal Studios in Wales and produced by Simon Efemy. The album includes a free exclusive bonus track download of ‘Crocodile Itch’, which will be delivered on the day of release with each CD or vinyl pre-order. The track features a guest appearance by guitarist Anders Nyström of Bloodbath,
Not only does this album come as they celebrate their 30th anniversary, but it’s also the first album in 23 years to feature the original line-up of guitarist/vocalist John Walker, bassist Ian Buchanan and drummer Carl Stokes.
Talking about the album, the band say: “We are delighted to have signed a recording deal with such an esteemed label as Peaceville. We have full confidence that they understand this metal and Cancer as a band. Together we want to deliver an album that celebrates our 30-year existence and the old-school death metal sound that we played a part in creating back in 1988 when the band were conceived. So rejoice and hoist the bunting fashioned from flaps of skin, and fill your balloons with the last gasp of a dying man! We are back from the dead. CFC.”
