Details Announced For Upcoming Season Of ‘Tubular Bells-Live In Concert’ Performances

Details have been revealed for the upcoming season of unique performances of ‘Tubular Bells-Live In Concert’ at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London between 7th-15th August 2021, which include the addition of actor Samuel West [pictured].
It will celebrate Mike Oldfield’s magnum opus, ‘Tubular Bells’, as a prelude to the masterpiece’s 50th anniversary in 2023.
Actor and Theatre director Samuel West, well-known for his work in film and TV, most recently in the new Channel 5 take on ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, has been added to the shows, pre-recording the role of ‘Master Of Ceremonies’ made famous by Vivian Stanshall. Samuel West is a fan of ‘Tubular Bells’.
On his fondness for the album and lending his voice to the shows, Samuel West said ”The brilliance and joy of ‘Tubular Bells’ has thrilled me since I first heard it aged seven, so of course I jumped at the chance to record the ‘Master Of Ceremonies’ role so memorably done by Viv Stanshall on the original recording.”
Details have also been revealed for the production of the show which contains a visual interpretation of the album being taken to the stage for the very first time. The shows will feature 11 dancers and is the first time that Circa Contemporary Circus have choreographed to a piece of rock music, having previously developed interpretations of classical music.
On the show, Mike Oldfield said ”I am sure that the 50th anniversary live concert experience of ‘Tubular Bells’ will be spectacular, theatrical, fantastical and thrilling. I’m so excited it is premiering in 2021, marking 50 years from when I started writing the music and will be touring the world through to 2023, the 50th anniversary of the original album release.”
