GIG REVIEW: SINSAENUM Live at The Dome, London

Written by on October 23, 2018

Sinsaenum embarked on a European tour in support of their new album “Repulsion for Humanity.” 19th October 2018 saw the tour arrive at the long-standing live music venue The Dome, London. With T.A.N.K and Hatesphere in tow, be prepared for an unforgettable night of music that embodies danger, power and seething aggression!

Tonight’s opener hailing from Paris T.A.N.K (Think of A New Kind) played to a small crowd- I’ll put that down to the early set time. They offered full force riffs and a punchy melodic death metal performance that gripped the crowd immediately. Short bursts of interaction had the crowd screaming, and the song “T.A.N.K” excited moshers. For those engaged in the music appreciated the short set and vocalist Raf Pener’s versatile range went down a treat. It’s safe to say the crowd loved these guys who played London for the first time. They delivered an exciting, energetic set and certainly warmed up the crowd.

Next to hit the stage was Danish thrash death metallers Hatesphere who stamped their way through the set with content and their live sound was full of raw energy. The crowd needed encouragement to get moving and vocalist Esben “Esse” Hansen called for a ‘wall of love’ for their final song “Sickness Within” which saw metalheads unite. The fresh and intense set delighted the crowd as the quintet left the stage to cheers and nods of approval.

After the energy unleashed during Hatespere, momentum was high for headliners Sinsaenum to hit us with some blackened death metal. Sinsaenum, usually described as a supergroup, was formed in 2016 by Frédéric Leclercq of Dragonforce fame and the iconic, former drummer of Slipknot Joey Jordison fronted by vocalist Sean Zatorsky (DAATH, Chimaira) tonight.

They entered the stage each assuming their positions and as fans recognised Joey Jordison’s appearance the crowd erupted with excitement. They launched straight into album title track “Humanity for Repulsion” which was received like a classic. Their stage presence was destructive as they ploughed through the set. Fans were delighted to hear set staple “Gods of Hell.” The blood curdling journey continued with “The Final Resolve” which saw the mosh pit in constant action. Joey’s hefty drum work caused utter carnage in the pit with pulsing drum beats and intense double kick drumming that had us on our toes as he sent shock waves across the Dome.

The energy intensified as Sean Zatorsky started a live Instagram video for Metal Hammer. The frontman was on top form tonight as he spewed out demonic death screams and abrasive growls. The spine-tingling performance of evil riffing and ferocious shredding came from guitarists Stephane Buriez and Frédéric Leclercq who also played out hair-raising solos. Fans were treated to a sensational cover version of “Hooch” (Melvins.) The blinding set came to an end with “Army of Chaos” that was undoubtedly a fan favourite as the crowd screamed along during the chorus.

Overall, this truly was an unforgettable evening of moshing and brutal pit action all in the name of “Repulsion for Humanity” Sinsaenum’s latest offering. The show was well executed, full of crushing riffs and rhythm and devilish growls. Support provided by T.A.N.K displayed unequivocal musical talent as they destroyed the stage with a memorable set. With a blend of intense energy and fast-paced hard-hitting metal Hatesphere made for a fantastic warm-up band for tonight. The Repulsion for Humanity Tour continues across Europe this month, so catch Sinsaenum in a city near you!
