Green Lung – Band Of The Month – September 2021
Written by Tina Saul on August 31, 2021
Green Lung have been winning the hearts and minds of the underground community since their 2019 debut ‘Woodland Rites’ and they have recruited TotalRock into their cult as we voted them band of the month for September 2021.
One of the leading lights in the UK’s heavy underground scene, their sound harks back to the golden days of psychedelic rock and proto-metal, and they’ve built up their following sharing stages with the likes of Conan, Church of the Cosmic Skull and Puppy.
Two years later, the folk horror-obsessed fivesome have re-emerged from their mulchy catacombs armed with dozens of freshly-whittled riffs. Their second album and the sequel to Woodland Rites, Black Harvest, is a more colourful reimagining of the band’s sound – Dawn of the Dead to its predecessor’s Night of the Living Dead. Keep an eye our for ‘Black Harvest’ due out on October 22nd, 2021. The Collective‘s Nard nominated them saying:
“Their set at Bloodstock was amazing, quite possibly my favourite set of the weekend!”
Expect to hear them played loads in September and check out these links, especially recommended for fans of Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, The Sword and Orchid.
And what about second and third place?
Ali nominated our second place Vessel, classic metallers based in Tel Aviv but hailing from Israel, Brazil and Spain. Influenced by their idols they emerged back in 2018 releasing with them their debut EP baptized as ‘Behind The Walls’. If you’re a fan of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest or Black Sabbath find out more about them here.
Third place was awarded to Norway’s Dold Vorde Ens Navn, which Nate nominated saying:
“Dold Vorde Ens Navn epitomise what the black metal genre still has to offer to fans of extreme metal. Not only is the music full of tremolo riffs and harsh vocals, but the line-up is full of veterans from the Norwegian black metal scene and have played in bands such as Satyricon, DHG, Strid, Ulver to name but a few. Dolde Vorde Ens Navn’s debut album will be released on November 12th via Lupus Lounge.”
Expect to hear all three bands lots across TotalRock in September and find out more about our previous winners if you are looking for some new band inspiration.
