Guitar legend Eddie Van Halen dies at 65
Confirmed by Eddies son, Wolf Van Halen, on Twitter this evening of Tuesday 6th October 2020:
“I can’t believe I’m having to write this but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop”
TMZ reports he died at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica Tuesday with his wife by his side. The last 72 hours “went massively downhill — doctors discovered his throat cancer had moved to his brain as well as other organs.” EVH was first diagnosed with cancer in 2001.
Eddie shot to fame in the 70’s and 80’s along with his brother drummer and co name-sake, Alex Van Halen, with the band Van Halen along with bassist Michael Anthony and vocalist David Lee Roth. Highly rated as a guitarist by fans and musicians alike and credited for popularising the technique of tapping a guitar. The band became one of the most successful selling rock bands ever selling over 80 million records worldwide and were inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2007.
We send our condolences and love to the Van Halen family and friends. RIP Eddie Van Halen
