Jeff Scott Soto has created a album which pays tribute to some of the classic songs he has recorded over the course of his career. But, rather than simply re-record them himself, he wanted to make the album that extra bit more special by doing it with fellow vocalist friends.
The question I’m sure you’re wondering, if it’s any good or not, read on and find out.
When listening to the album, the tracks that immediately caught my attention were the following:
‘Livin’ The Life’ originally recorded by Rock Star and sung with Erik Martensson (Eclipse/W.E.T.)
‘Don’t Let It End’ originally recorded by Yngwie Malmsteen and sung with Dino Jelusick (Animal Drive)
‘Mysterious’ originally recorded by Talisman and sung with with Eric Martin (Mr. Big)
‘Believe in Me’ originally recorded by JSS and sung with with Nathan James (Inglorious)
‘Coming Home’ originally recorded by Soul Sirkus and sung with Deen Castronovo (Revolution Saints, Journey)
‘I’ll Be Waiting’ originally recorded by Talisman and sung with Alirio Netto (Shaman, Queen Extravaganza)
‘Warrior’ originally recorded by Axel Rudi Pell and sung with Johnny Gioeli (Hardline, Axel Rudi Pell)
‘Holding On’ originally recorded by JSS and sung with BJ (SOTO, Spektra)
‘Again 2 B Found’ originally recorded by Humanimal and sung with with Mats Leven (Candlemass)
However, the tracks that didn’t catch my attention were the following:
‘Callin’ All Girls’ originally recorded by Eyes and sung with Russell Allen (Symphony X, Allen/Lande)
‘Colour My XTC’ originally recorded by Talisman and sung with Renan Zonta (Electric Mob)
These two are contrived and forgettable.
Regardless of whether you are a long time fan of Jeff Scott Soto or a newcomer, this ‘Duets’ album is worthy of investigation. Ignore the low points and give the album a listen and revel in the high points. You won’t be disappointed.
