If you like your Metal retro-sounding, then Lucifer’s rather excellent new album ‘Lucifer IV’ might be just the thing for you.
That was one of the main reason’s why I was interested in critiquing this album, as it piqued my interest and made me want to find out why a band in 2021, would want to create an album, that sounded like they belong in the seventies, yet fuse the sound with a modern twist and would they intrigue a modern Metal fan’s interest, who’s more interest in the speed, volume and screaming vocals, than listen to this very retro-sounding opus.
Does it live up to expectations?
Upon listening to the album, the following songs certainly delivered: ‘Archangel Of Death’, ‘Wild Hearses’, ‘Crucifix (I Burn For You)’, ‘Bring Me His Head’, ‘Mausoleum’, ‘Cold As A Tombstone’, ‘Louise’, ‘Nightmare’, ‘Orion’ and ‘Phobos’.
The vocal performance from singer, Johanna Sadonis, is what definitely makes this album stand out from a lot of the male fronted retro-sounding Metal bands, as it gives the album a more pleasanter and less contrived retro sound, which isn’t prevalent in a lot of their male fronted contemporaries who do this. They are definitely doing something right.
The instrumental track on the album ‘The Funeral Pyre’ sounds good and would fit perfect on any 1970s Hammer Horror movie or if someone wanted to make a modern Horror movie with a retro feel soundtrack. This would fit perfectly.
Lucifer have taken things to a whole new level with this album, by making the music and the lyrics shine, instead of trying to create a listening experience, that fits in with what everybody else is doing and for that, they should be commended. Lucifer entertain, make no mistake of that.
