Nova Rock 2022 – Review of Day 2 – 10 June
Written by Mariam on June 27, 2022
The morning of day two of Nova Rock 2022 started with more rain showers and strong wind as well as sleep deprivation caused by either partying too hard or/and other fans running around the camping area with a megaphone. No rest for the wicked! In the afternoon, the sun fought through the clouds and fans finally had the perfect festival weather.
The Austrian trio Igle vs. Shark were a very great choice to start the day on the Red Stage with solid rock tunes such as “Step up” and “She’s on Fire”.
Battle Beast from Finland were next on stage with a strong female lead singer who not only impressed with her voice but also with her Beast-like outfit.
Next up was another local Thrash-/Groove Metal Band called Black Inhale on the Red Stage, which was further proof of what great talent Austria had to offer. Their heavy tunes got many fans motivated to join the circle pit.
Simultaneously the British metalcore band While She Sleeps heated up the Blue Stage with fast riffs and multiple walls of deaths.
For those fans who wanted less screaming and more symphonic sounds, the Dutch band Epica, who had just celebrated their 20th anniversary, was a good act to watch instead.
Maneskin, who won the European Song Contest last year, opened their show with the winning song “Zitti E Buoni”. This young Italian band managed to rile up fans as singer Damiano David and the rest of the band posed provocatively throughout the show and showed a lot of skin in an “sex sells’ approach. They recently released a new song called “Supermodel”, which was inspired by the toxic fashion industry and the distorted portrayal of beauty but one of the crowd’s favourite songs was definitely “I wanna be your Slave”.
Despite the slight sound issues, Korn delivered a solid performance, starting off with “Falling Away From Me” and “Got a Life” which got the audience moving. Since Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu temporarily left the band due to “falling back on bad habits” and “needing time to heal” Roberto “Ra” Diaz from Suicidal Tendencies stepped in as a replacement.
Mystical sounds, folklore and ritual aesthetic. Heilung are an experimental folk music band with members from Norway, Germany and Denmark. They describe their music as “amplified history from early medieval northern Europe” which is based on text and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of Bronze, Iron and Viking Age. Around 12 people in fur and other tribal outfits occupied the stage, some mounted with spear and shields.
Due to the recent death of Foo Fighter drummer Taylor Hawking, the headliner was replaced by the British rock band Placebo. The set was a combination of new songs like “Forever Chemicals” from their album “Never Let Me Go” and old classics such as “The Bitter End”. Bring Me The Horizon was the final band of the evening with impressive video material on the screens, hard riffs and sing-along chores.
