Raw, Visceral and Beautiful, HAWXX Deliver a Breathtaking Performance at the Launch of Their Deput Album, Earth, Spit, Blood and Bones!!

On a cold wet Friday night under the railway arches in New Cross, HAWXX took to the stage at the launch of their long awaited debut album ‘Earth, Spit, Blood and Bones’ at the eclectic art space, the Match Stick Pie House performing as their male alter egos! With Anna on vocals as Softboi Socrates, Julia on bass as Leon Hard-on Da Vinci, Hannah on guitar as Queef Richards and Jess as Big Kev Cojones, to huge applause from a loyal and ecstatic audience.

Since their outstanding performance on The Dogtooth Stage at The Download Festival, HAWXX have clearly made their mark in the music industry as heroic dissidents! To say they are fearless is an understatement, they are a tribe of feminist mavericks, a band who less walk their own path, more rip it up and build a new one!

Their music less shouts and more roars, standing firm in the current political climate, unapologetic, raw, visceral and beautiful. HAWXX are the trailblazers of their generation, walking where angels fear to tread with songs that talk about violence against women, metal health and the oppression of the beauty industry! The kind of band you want your teenagers to listen to! Not just the voice of queer people and the LGBTQIA+ community, but the voice of women everywhere!

Never a band to conform to expectations, the evening began with a folk set with Anna on penny whistle and Jess on accordion much to the joy of the already full venue. Next up were ‘Mallavora’, a band with a powerful message about disability awareness within the music industry.

This was followed by queer feminist punk rock and rage duo ‘Pink Suits’ with their aggressive blend of queer focused political punk, a fitting start to one hell of a great night!

HAWXX’s opening track, ‘Death of Silence’, is a ferocious attack against the shame and silence of the ‘Me Too’ generation, a song that calls for solidarity and demands to be heard. ‘Embrace the Ugly’ is an absolute masterpiece, with driving metal guitars, a pounding drum beat and Anna’s formidable voice urging women everywhere to rise up and disobey the toxic culture of the beauty industry!

‘Fathertongue’ begins with a stunning blended vocal before firing up into fierce heavy metal riffs and Julia’s pumping bassline together with Jess’s thumping drum sound, another absolute triumph!

But the absolute highlight of the night was undoubtedly, the haunting and magnificent, ‘Death Makes Sisters of Us All’, a song that bleeds with anger and solidarity, a call to come together against violence against women! Spellbinding yet overflowing with rage!

Now there are lots of phenomenally great bands out there, but once in a while you get a band who are really worth getting excited about, a band so unique, so special, so raw that you just have to sit up and take notice and HAWXX are that band!!
