Resistor ‘Chapter Three: Through Open Sky’ EP
15 January 2021 – Mangoe Records
Words: Mark Green
Hailing from Long Island, New York, heavy reprobates Resistor have only been together since 2018 and have had their eyes on the prize since day one. Already releasing the first two EP’s in this saga, ‘Chapter One: Loss of All‘ and ‘Chapter Two: The New Plague‘, the band have kickstarted 2021 with a new dose of fury in the release of ‘Chapter Three: Through Open Sky‘.
We’re greeted to proceedings with a bellow of growling on the title track, before being joined by just a taste of what to expect for the next nine minutes. The sound has a pretty raw touch to it, giving it that sense of filth and danger. ‘Dead Air‘ is a no nonsense head nodding horror show, leading nicely into ‘Thorns‘, which is where the true violence comes to fruition. Guitars and bass distort while drums hammer hard. Last track ‘Desolate‘ reminds me of a grittier Suicide Silence without the blast beating bonanza and more of a hardcore edge. And then, just like that, the music fades out and it’s over, leaving us wanting more.
