RockFit: What happens when rock and fitness collide

Written by on July 1, 2020

If you’d have told me five months ago that I’d be switching boogying along to my favourite tracks at a gig or club to the confines of my own front room, my response would have been akin to that of a hyena. But then coronavirus hit and our lives changed overnight. I don’t need to tell you that, we’re all living through it right now, but what I do want to tell you about is a fantastic new online community and platform that has appeared. Introducing RockFit.

RockFit: a brand new fitness platform for rock and metal fans.

My journey with RockFit started when I realised that I could not carry on treating lockdown as a challenge to see how far I could get my elasticated waistband to grow. Like many others, the weight was piling on while adjusting to a far more sedentary way of life. I failed to get into a workout routine with Nintendo Ring Fit and other online channels, but this changed when I stumbled across a fitness platform featuring rock and metal. SIGN ME UP.

I’ve spent the last month trying it out and can honestly start to see the difference already, not just in my fitness levels, but in my happiness too. This makes it so much easier to fire up the laptop time and time again, even when the temperature started to soar.

How it works

Each class is an hour-long mix of dance, cardio and toning, accompanied by a great range of rock and metal tracks. There are impact level options, catering for people of all fitness levels, and the energy and encouragement from Hannah pushes you harder each time. Although to be honest I have sworn LOUDLY at her several times, especially when you hear her say “just one more set” after countless squats to Foghat’s ‘Slow Ride’.

I am hopeless with group exercise, especially coordinating my arms and legs in time with the music, but there is something about these instructions which makes it click, and it’s satisfying to see that grapevines and air guitar go hand in hand.

But what I really love about RockFit is that it’s not just you and Hannah on a journey alone through your laptop, she has done an outstanding job of building up a community of like-minded music fans who are on the same journey as you. People there to push you if you fall behind, offer advice on taking it to the next level, and to give you that virtual high five after you’ve posted your first sweaty selfie!
