mat sergeant new lpIn 1995, Mat Sargent (Sham 69, Chelsea and Splodgenessabounds) decided to ask a few fellow musicians to help him put an album together to give something back to the Charities that had helped him on his journey in life.

Fast forward to 2021, over 200 guest musicians, 40 original songs and the ‘Sex Drugs And HIV’ was finally born! This 8 disk DVD includes out-takes, extras and bonus songs previously unreleased from the album.

Mat decided to put the project together after was diagnosed with HIV in 1989.

”I was diagnosed HIV+ in 1989 and the beneficiary Charities for the project were my first port of call at the time. It was a scary time, I was just a teenager and was given between 3 – 5 years to live. It was 1995 when I had the mad idea to record the album with many of my musician friends and people I’d met on the road. I wanted to give something back to the Charities that helped me through my journey in life. mat sergeant new lp track listingThe ‘Sex Drugs And HIV’ album was released in 2014, it took years to finish all the recordings and I was happy with the mixes for all the songs. The first release was the special edition 3 disk version (2xCD + DVD), this did very well so it was re-pressed as the 2CD version. The project has made thousands of pounds for the Charities, so I’m happy it continues to sell and make money for them.”

Proceeds from the sale of the album will go to Cancer Research, Rape Crisis, Release and Terrence Higgins Trust.

Mat Sargent is on ‘The Mattcave’ Friday 12th March 2021, 9-12pm, to talk to Matt Mason about how the album came together. Tune in!
