The former drummer of Slipknot, Joey Jordison, has passed away at the age of 46.
His family wrote in a statement ”We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep…Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow.”
Joey Jordison was one of Slipknot’s original members, founding the band in 1995 along with percussionist Shawn Crahan and bassist Paul Gray.
He remained a part of the group until 2013 with the band announcing ”It is with great pain but quiet respect that for personal reasons Joey Jordison and Slipknot are parting ways.”
In 2014, he claimed he had been fired and was ‘shocked and blindsided’ by the decision. He later revealed he had transverse myelitis, a nerve disease, which had affected his ability to play.
”I lost my legs. I couldn’t play any more. It was a form of multiple sclerosis, which I don’t wish on my worst enemy” he said in 2016 before adding ”I got myself back up and I got myself in the gym and I got myself back in therapy to beat this…If I can do it, you can do it.”
After leaving Slipknot, Jordison went on to form the bands:Scar the Martyr, Vimic, Sinsaenum and Murderdolls.
