Sonic Workshops Announce A Brand-New Music Education Venture
Written by Johnson Stephen on September 25, 2020
In a changing World, there’s a driving need to evolve, adapt and innovate to survive and prosper. That’s true of music; also, of music education, which aims to prepare people to work in the business. Both the music business and music education have been affected by changes in the industry and markets, seismically changing the landscape. Now too they’ve been affected by Covid-19 and the Lockdown.
It was during the Covid-19 Lockdown, however, that two forward-thinking innovators and educators – George Donoghue and Danny Harvey looked hard at the state of play now, and in the months and years to come. From what they were seeing that was working and helping, they devised a new way to provide music education, adapted to the current situation and to the future. The venture that’s going to deliver this, they’ve called Sonic Workshops.
Both George and Danny recognised the importance of versatility that musicians were relying on in such a trying time: a whole industry was turned on its head and forced to innovate, necessity being the mother of invention. With this came a wealth of people – including skilled practitioners and professionals – sharing their experiences and coping mechanisms to deal with this drastic shift.
The company describes itself like this ”Sonic Workshop is a community of forward-thinking ambitious people who teach and encourage accountability, team building and networking. We offer 1-to-1 online mentoring with some of the most pioneering and active people in the music industry today. We endeavour to match you with a mentor and a team that can help you to achieve your career goals and ambitions.”
Mentoring is the key to Sonic Workshops’ approach, as a method for teaching and support, and providing access to high-quality, high-skilled, pioneering and accomplished mentors, who are active in the industry, have walked the walk and are willing and able to share their advice. This can give Sonic Workshops’ subscribers and clients a real edge.
”From the outside” says co-founder, George Donoghue, before adding ”The music industry can feel like an all-too exclusive club, with no number on the door, no clear route in and no map you can rely on. Good guides are hard to come by.”
