The Arcane Dimensions Tour — Manchester O2 Apollo

The Arcane Dimensions Tour arrived in Manchester with the kind of anticipation reserved for tours that promise more than just a night of music. With Amaranthe headlining a bill that also featured Epica and Charlotte Wessels, the O2 Apollo became the setting for an ambitious, genre spanning showcase of modern metal in all its evolving forms.

From early evening, the venue buzzed with excitement. Fans packed the floor well before the first band took to the stage, and the sense of occasion was undeniable. What followed was a carefully paced journey, intimate and atmospheric at first, symphonic and commanding in the middle, and explosively energetic by the night’s end.

Opening the show, Charlotte Wessels delivered a performance that immediately set a darker, more introspective tone. Drawing from her solo project The Obsession, her set leaned into mood and emotional depth rather than sheer volume. A bold choice that paid off.

Wessels’ vocal control was exceptional, effortlessly shifting between vulnerability and power. Despite the size of the venue and the crowd still filtering in, she held attention with ease, creating a sense of intimacy that contrasted sharply with the spectacle that would later unfold. Her presence was confident but restrained, allowing the material itself to resonate.

Following the opener, Epica took the stage and dramatically expanded the scale of the evening. Their performance was grand, dense and cinematic symphonic metal delivered with precision and confidence.

Simone Simons was, as ever, a commanding focal point, her operatic vocals soaring above layered orchestration and crushing guitars. The band moved seamlessly between newer material and long-standing fan favourites, maintaining momentum throughout a set that demanded full attention from the audience.

A notable highlight came with a guest appearance from Charlotte Wessels for “Sirens – Of Blood and Water”, reinforcing the collaborative nature of the tour and drawing a powerful reaction from the crowd. While Epica’s intricate compositions can feel overwhelming in lesser hands, here they were delivered with clarity and purpose.

As headliners, Amaranthe closed the night with a performance that was unapologetically energetic and meticulously crafted for maximum impact. From the moment they took the stage, the tone shifted. Brighter, louder and relentlessly dynamic.

The band’s trademark three vocalist setup proved once again to be a major strength, allowing for rapid shifts in tone and texture throughout the set. Clean melodies, harsh vocals and soaring choruses blended seamlessly, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish. The production matched the ambition with lasers, smoke and bold lighting cues transforming the Apollo into a high intensity visual experience.

The crowd response was immediate and sustained, with the floor moving in unison as song after song landed with precision. While the band made clear use of backing tracks to enhance their sound, it never overshadowed the live performance or dulled the energy. Instead, it reinforced Amaranthe’s futuristic, genre blurring identity.

The Arcane Dimensions Tour in Manchester succeeded because of its balance. Each act brought something distinct to the table, yet the night unfolded with a clear sense of progression. Charlotte Wessels provided atmosphere and emotional depth, Epica delivered symphonic power and drama, and Amaranthe closed the show with an adrenaline fuelled headline performance that left the crowd buzzing.

It was a long evening, but one that justified every minute. As a snapshot of where modern melodic and symphonic metal currently stands.

A triumphant tour, diverse, ambitious and expertly executed.
