Band Of The Month – January
The first TotalRock band of the month in 2021 went to Austrian heavy hitters Roadwolf! As TotalRock’s own Tina Saul said of the band, they are “furious, energetic and uncompromising…with their irrepressible energy, snappy hooks and riffs, the likes of which have not been hear in this intensity for a long time”. The band recently released their album `Unchain The Wolf` and are surely set for bigger things in the future.
Biggest stories of the month
The Dead Daisies shake things up
The Dead Daisies made a big splash with month the launch of their latest album `Holy Ground`. The first with their new frontman and bassist Glenn Hughes, it received a nock-out review from our very own Dawn Osborne who said that “Glenn had managed to introduce his special brand of magic into the world of the Daisies”.
However, that’s not the only news that came out of Daisyland this month. January also saw Drummer and vocalist Deen Castronovo announce his departure from the band, stating his desire to spend more time with his family and wishing to get his back surgery out of the way. Castronovo will be replaced by Ozzy Osbourne’s long-time drummer Tommy Clufetos. The Dead Daisies said:
“The band can’t wait to play these songs live! When they do hit the road, returning to the Daisies amazing line-up is the monstrous, hard-hitting, powerhouse drummer, Tommy Clufetos (Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne). So, strap in, this is going to be one hell of a ride!”
Nigel Powell leaves Frank Turner
The drummer announced his departure after 14 years with Frank Turner and The Sleeping Soul. Nigel, better know as The Sad Song Co. did also announce some good news for his fans, with the release of his new album `Saudade` last week.
The Damned are back and so is Rat Scabies
While we eagerly await the day The Damned can finally hit the road for their tour of their classic lineup, original drummer Rat Scabies has been keeping busy with his own new project – One Thousand Motels. They Said: “The Mutants have evolved. Chris Constantinou and Rat Scabies have shed the skin of their previous band name and are now checking into new lodgings. The duo is collaborating under the name One Thousand Motels (OTM) and new music is forthcoming”. Our own Dawn Osborne spoke to Rat about his new project , The Damned and much more besides.
David Bowie’s Birthday livestream 2021
Even a global pandemic couldn’t slow down the celebrations in honour of David Bowie’s birthday. In Honour of Bowie, a star studded livestream featuring many of his band members and guests including Joe Elliot, Perry Farrell, Gary Oldman and Gavin Rossdale was broadcast on January 8th. Hosted by his long time piano player Mike Garson, this year marked the 5th year since Bowie’s passing. Watch one one of the videos above, featuring Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor on vocals.
