There’s nothing like hearing an underground UK death metal band for the first time and knowing in that first instance they have ‘it’. That is what This Is Turin have. They have ‘it’ and then some. These Cheshire cats have been around since 2015, releasing their debut album ‘Cercis‘ the same year and releasing several singles since. Now comes new release ‘T.U.R.I.N.‘, a three track EP that is so good, it wouldn’t surprise me if bigger things happen much sooner rather than later for them. The production is on point, helping bring their large heavy sound straight to our attention like an explosion.

First track ‘Misery‘, is given instant certification featuring the one and only CJ McMahon from Thy Art Is Murder. It starts with a methodical downtuned deathcore stomp before unleashing all hell upon us with deathcore blast beats and damn heavy riffs. It’s like listening to the Acacia Strain and Thy Art Is Murder getting in to a knife fight. The vocals growl at length, adding more unease than we expect. At the 3.30min mark, we get a hellacious gurgling shout as if barbed wire was being used to gargle with. As the song begins to fade out, drummer Ben Adrcroft takes charge, bombarding our ears with an onslaught of insanely fast and technical drumming while the riffs accompany them through. I can still feel the rumbling.

Absolution‘ throws us straight into the fire, with total fury and anguish. There’s no time to breathe as machine gun drumming and deathly guitar work reign supreme. Elements of black metal begin to creep further in to the track and atmospheric dark sounds give the overall feel of pure evil. The pace slows down to close this one out, leaving us wondering what else is left in store for us.

Excommunicate‘ begins with very similar nods to The Black Dahlia Murder, before the chorus kicks in to a Lamb of God groove that is bound to get any crowd invested. The guitar work is excellent, technical where it needs to be and bruising simplicity where it’s needed too. The drumming again, is exquisite, keeping everything together tightly. Expect this to inspire the start of some epic mosh pits when gigs are back up and running.

This is three tracks of tremendous brutal deathcore. It all ends far too quickly, leaving us wanting much more. Stop teasing us lads, and give us more.
