Turnstile Sellout Rock City in Stile!
One of the last major artists to tour before lockdowns, handily become one of the first major tours post lockdown! Now this short stint is only four shows and three cities, including two different venues in London – this due to the Roundhouse selling out and having no spare dates for a second night. Rock City sold out just ahead of the show but there’s not many tickets left for the o2 Forum and Leeds Uni! buy HERE.
To the show! Turnstile aren’t exactly rusty, having been on tour in the US since August, ahead of the latest offering, ‘Glow On‘, thankfully not tired either! This show was LOUD! Bass was heavy, yet all instruments and vocals cut through. No surprise to open with.. ‘No Surprise‘ and into the first track of the latest two albums, I’ve not seen the band live before but this was exactly how I imagined the show should go. As with their albums, a contrasting mix of hardcore and ambient, plenty of stage diving and surfing, which given the history of Rock Cities security could have been a disaster, thankfully as far as I’m aware everyone was well behaved and safe.
Clocking in at exactly an hour, no encore, no back and forth with the audience, just pure octane and euphoria. Turnstile’s music is written with audience participation in mind and Rock City didn’t disappoint, even above the volume of the music! Biggest surprise: the size of the side stage entourage! Biggest non-surprise: how fantastic the show was! If you’re debating – just do it, we all need something awesome to pick us up! 10/10
