The Music World Can Shock, But This Really Has Eyebrows Raised

In 2021 Dani Filth revealed that there had been rumblings of a collaboration with pop sensation Ed Sheeran. Surprisingly to the metal scene it was shared that Sheeran was actually a huge Cradle of Filth fan and had been for quite some time.“I think the Ed Sheeran collaboration would be great fun,” Filth told Kerrang! Radio at the time. “I think it’d be great if we did it for charity because at least it would bring a bit of credibility to it. Because obviously, to his public, it’d be like, ‘Oh my god, he’s got this weird comical guy’, and to my public, it’d be like ‘Oh my god, this is a bit weird, isn’t it?’ But I think that sort of thing, nowadays, works.” Whether you love the idea or hate the idea, you’ve got to admit you’re intrigued.

Though not much was heard after that just before Christmas last year Filth shared a photo of him and Sheeran enjoying a pint together. He also shared a photo of the pair having dinner with producer Scott Atkins. In an interview with Metal Hammer Filth described what friendship with the most famous pop star in the world was like, “Weird,” he said. “I’ve spoken to him very regularly over the last two years. Like me, he’s a real Suffolk boy. When he came to the studio that day, he didn’t come down with a cavalcade of reporters: he turned up on his own, guitar on his back, Cradle Of Filth hoodie on, and got on with it. It was fucking great.”  Filth confirmed the project, citing that it would be a charity song and is currently looking at a summer release.
